Artist's Message:

Everything on this map of New Zealand is hand-drawn in the style of Tolkien, which feels only right given this is the home of Middle-earth. The inspiration I took from his technique flows through the Southern Alps and is engraved into the valleys of the fjords and the lines of the coasts. Even the place names are written in an elegant yet clean elvish style font to make the country feel even more wonderful.

This project took me dozens of hours to complete using just pen and pencil. I drew thousands of individual trees to accurately display the forest density and coverage across the North and South Islands. I spent days mapping the Southern Alps, ensuring iconic giants like Aoraki/Mt Cook, Mt. Aspiring, and Mt. Tasman stood out, alongside the volcanoes of the north like Mt. Taranaki, Mt. Ruapehu and Mt. Ngauruhoe.

I included special details like the Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers, and I even marked Matamata with a little Hobbiton hut label. The highways are drawn as dotted lines, looking like roads from the past connecting the towns. You can be sure to find where you live on this map, as I have labeled hundreds of towns in striking red to create contrast with the black of the sharp mountains and calm forest canopies.

I loved the sense of satisfaction after finishing and stepping back from this map to observe the mountains, the dotted roads, and islands like Stewart Island and White Island perfectly weaving together to create something timeless.

USA as an Elvish Map

I ordered the map of the USA as an Elvish map, and it looks great! The service was surprisingly quick as well. I ordered it framed with wooden frame, and furthermore I ordered it about a week before Christmas, and it still showed up just after Christmas (not an issue, since I ordered it for me). So the shipping speed is excellent. The map was well packaged and protected (which is good, because it looks like the box took some hits along the way), and arrived in great shape. The sale price was helpful too! ;-) I would definitely do business with this company again!
